Why Do Website Prices Vary So Much?

Why do website prices vary so much?

Why does it cost so much to build a website?

There are many different ways to make a website and it is important for you to understand your main website goals and requirements before deciding on your budget and which way you should go with development and also important to find out exactly what you are getting for your money.

Do you need an agency to help? Or would a freelancer suffice?

Medium – Large Businesses

If you are a medium – large sized business I would always recommend you use a web design company or agency to build your website for the following reasons:

  • You may have specialist requirements that are better handled by a team of people
  • With a larger budget you should be able to get a custom design coded from scratch, especially designed for your business
  • Get ongoing specialist advice about a range of services such as marketing, design, web design, SEO & content management

The price for these larger-scale websites will likely be a minimum of $5000 and could be a lot more + any ongoing costs for SEO or content management.

Small Business & Individuals

In many cases small businesses, individuals and not-for-profits with smaller budgets are better suited to a good freelancer, but again it is important to find out what you are getting for your money.

Every freelancer will have a different set of skills and abilities and not all will be suitable for your needs. Some can code but not design, others can design and not code. Have a look at their portfolio and browse testimonials to find out if you are a good fit, and don’t be afraid to ask questions.

A freelancer will be perfect for you if:

  • You have a limited budget (around $900 – $5000)
  • Your website is simple in nature – not requiring much specialist functionality or custom coding
  • You are interested in updating the website yourself after training and want to take an active role in blog posts, social media & marketing

What do you get for your money when you hire me to build your website?

  • Premium Theme + Child Theme for modifications

I don’t code from scratch, which is a big factor in how I keep my prices low. I purchase a premium theme that acts as a framework and then create a child theme for your business that includes any modifications and additional functionality. Any coding modifications will increase the price of the build in my initial quote. The benefits of using a Premium theme is that it is continuously updated to keep up with WordPress Updates & security releases.

  • Photoshop designs for layout & banner images

I usually begin by working in Photoshop when planning a new website and drafting banner designs, colours and fonts to be used.

  • Project Limits

I only take on 1 or 2 web design projects at a time so that I can offer an excellent service and complete your project efficiently. I can often have your website live within 2-3 weeks, which includes all meetings, planning and feedback sessions.

  • Marketing & SEO

This is where it is important to have a good idea of your website goals. Is your goal to build an email database of subscribers? Is your goal to get more calls and leads? Do you want more members?

I can help implement a website marketing plan to meet your goals and implement a initial SEO setup for your website and give you information about how to improve your SEO, but then you will need to implement this yourself, or hire another freelancer to assist you with ongoing content writing.

  • Advice and ongoing support

I am generous with my time and happy to offer free advice whenever you need it. Every website I build includes 1 month of additional support if you require extra training or assistance. WordPress websites need to be maintained and updated to ensure that they remain secure.
